Haruharu Black Rice Sunscreens: Pure Mineral Relief vs Moisture Airyfit

Choose the Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Pure Mineral Relief sunscreen if your skin tends to sting or flush with chemical UV filters, since it relies on zinc oxide alone. Choose the Moisture Airyfit if your skin tolerates chemical filters and you want a lighter, moisturizing feel with a soft velvet finish. Both are SPF 50+ PA++++, come in 50 ml tubes, and share the same black rice extract base.

The short version

These two sunscreens look alike and carry nearly the same name, so they are easy to mix up. The real difference is the type of UV filter inside, and that difference matters most for skin that reacts easily.

  • Pure Mineral Relief: mineral (physical) sunscreen. The only UV filter on the ingredient list is non-nano zinc oxide. The brand describes a lightweight texture with a soft satin finish and lists it as free of fragrance and essential oils.
  • Moisture Airyfit: chemical (organic-filter) sunscreen. It uses a blend of modern chemical filters instead of zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. It has a light, moisturizing texture with a velvet, non-greasy finish.

Beyond the filters, the supporting ingredients overlap a lot. Both list black rice (Oryza sativa) extract, rice bran oil, niacinamide, ceramide NP and a handful of plant extracts.

Why the filter type matters for reactive skin

Many people with sensitive or redness-prone skin find that certain chemical UV filters make their eyes water or their cheeks feel warm and tingly. Others use chemical sunscreens every day with no trouble at all. There is no single rule, but if you already know you react to chemical sunscreens, a zinc oxide formula is the more cautious starting point.

Mineral sunscreens have their own trade-offs. Zinc oxide can leave a slight white or grayish tint, which tends to be more noticeable on deeper skin tones, and mineral formulas usually take a little more effort to spread evenly. Chemical sunscreens are generally easier to blend and more likely to disappear completely on the skin.

Pure Mineral Relief: who it suits

A good fit if you:

  • Have skin that stings, itches or turns red with chemical sunscreens
  • Prefer mineral filters for personal reasons
  • Want a formula without added fragrance or essential oils
  • Like a satin finish rather than a dewy one

You might skip it if you:

  • Have a deeper skin tone and dislike any visible cast
  • Want the lightest, most invisible finish possible
  • Already use chemical sunscreens comfortably and prefer how they feel

Moisture Airyfit: who it suits

A good fit if you:

  • Have normal to dry skin that wants comfort without shine
  • Tolerate chemical UV filters well
  • Want a sunscreen that blends easily and sits well under makeup

You might skip it if you:

  • Have a history of reacting to chemical sunscreens
  • Have very oily skin and want a mattifying finish (a velvet finish is soft, not flat-matte)

How to apply either one

  1. Finish your morning skincare first. Sunscreen goes on as the last skincare step, after serum and moisturizer.
  2. Measure enough. Squeeze out about two finger-lengths (a line along your index and middle fingers) for the face and neck. Most people use far less than this, which means less protection than the label states.
  3. Spread in sections. Dot it across forehead, cheeks, nose, chin and neck, then spread. With the mineral version, work in small sections and pat rather than rub to keep the layer even.
  4. Give it a few minutes. Let it settle before applying makeup so it does not pill or move around.
  5. Reapply. Reapply at least every 2 hours when you are outdoors, and right after swimming, sweating or towel drying.

What not to combine them with

Neither sunscreen needs special rules, but a few habits help:

  • Do not mix sunscreen into moisturizer or foundation. Diluting it spreads the same amount of filter over a larger area and lowers the protection you actually get.
  • Watch for pilling with heavy silicone primers. If your sunscreen rolls up into little balls, use a lighter layer underneath or wait longer between steps.
  • Avoid layering lots of active products underneath on the same morning. If your skin is reactive, keep the morning simple: a gentle cleanse, a hydrating layer and sunscreen.
  • Note the niacinamide. Both formulas already contain niacinamide. That is usually fine, but if you know niacinamide makes your skin flush, patch test first.

Patch testing is worth the extra day

If your skin reacts easily, try a small amount along the jawline or behind the ear once a day for a few days before using it on your whole face. Stop using it if you notice burning, itching or a rash.

FAQ

Which Haruharu sunscreen is better for sensitive skin?

If you know chemical filters bother you, the Pure Mineral Relief is the more cautious choice because its only UV filter is zinc oxide. If you have never had a problem with chemical sunscreens, either can work.

Does the Pure Mineral Relief leave a white cast?

Zinc oxide sunscreens can leave a light tint, especially right after application and on deeper skin tones. Applying in thin layers and patting it in helps. If any visible cast is a deal breaker, the Airyfit is the easier option.

Are both sunscreens SPF 50+?

Yes. Both are labeled SPF 50+ PA++++. PA is the Korean rating for UVA protection, and four plus signs is the highest grade on that scale.

Can I wear them under makeup?

Yes. Let the sunscreen settle for a few minutes first. The Airyfit tends to be the smoother base; with the mineral version, a thin, even layer works best.

Which one is better for oily skin?

Neither is marketed as a mattifying sunscreen. The Airyfit is described for normal to dry skin, while the mineral version has a satin finish. If shine is your main concern, you may prefer a semi-matte formula from our sun protection collection.

Do I still need to reapply if my makeup is on top?

Yes. Reapply every 2 hours outdoors, and after swimming or sweating. A sunscreen stick or powder can make this easier over makeup, but the amount still matters.

Where to find them
